Discussion:
In the USA, Complementary and
Alternative Medicine (CAM) may be defined as any treatment that is not
considered a part of the medical treatment that might be offered to an
individual by a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). This form of treatment is also known as Allopathic
Medicine, meaning against disease.
Virtually every day there are
publications in reputable journals worldwide regarding the use of CAM
treatments for an incredibly wide variety of conditions. Currently, US tax
dollars pay for dozens of these studies through a branch of the federal government's National Institute of Health (NIH), known as
the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).
In the USA organized medicine has
enjoyed an almost complete monopoly on health care. This monopoly has held even in the face of
medical practices ranging from the use of leaches and bloodletting to 10-20
thousand Thalidomide babies born
with severe limb deformities to medical errors and non-error adverse reactions currently
accounting for the deaths of about 250 thousand Americans each year. That makes Allopathic Medicine the 3rd largest
killer of Americans, trailing only heart disease and cancer.
The strength of this monopoly is likely
due to the coordinated conspiracy that organized medicine has waged against
other health professions and the constant reinforcement through the media. The
AMA was found guilty in Federal Court of conspiring to "contain and
eliminate" the chiropractic profession. It is the bias created by this
monopoly that tends to preclude CAM procedures from being presented as viable
options or additions in the actual practical application of health care on a
day to day basis in the United States. This lack of integration of truly CAM
procedures by organized medicine has lead to an information vacuum that needs
to be filled by public education outlets, including shows in the public media. In
light of how important health is to every person, and of how expensive health
care is, the magnitude of urgency of disseminating accurate CAM information to
the general public cannot be over emphasized. This show will be a step in that
direction.
Target Audience
General public. Secondary audience will be the insurance
industry, health care professionals, and attorneys practicing in personal
injury, workers compensation, malpractice and health care law.
